FAQ

+

How long does a portrait session take?

Sessions run from 30 minutes to 2 hours. I encourage several variations to ensure we've captured your very best, but if you'd like to be done in 30 minutes, that's fine as well.

+

Should I add a Makeup Artist?

Most clients don't — and you'll still look great. Between professional retouching and the skin-smoothing modifiers we keep on hand, common concerns like shine are handled here in the studio. That said, if you're planning to visit a makeup bar beforehand, having an artist or a talented friend on set to keep everything fresh is worth considering. Adding a makeup person on-set typically runs $350–$450, depending on availability. For men, a haircut 3–7 days before your session is the sweet spot — long enough to settle in, close enough to look sharp. If a full cut isn't in the cards, a quick trim above the ears goes a long way.

+

What should I wear?

Solids and neutral colors photograph best — long sleeves tend to work better than short, but we'll work with what you have. That said, wearing what you're most comfortable in takes priority. Avoid hyper-bright whites, reds, magentas, and purples as they tend to be distracting. And please bring extra options whenever possible — having more to choose from can often make all the difference.

+

How many final images do I get?

Your session includes 1 professionally retouched image. Additional images are $95 each — most clients choose 3–7, but that's up to you.

+

Can you come to my office?

Absolutely — I bring my studio setup to your location anywhere in the Bay Area and beyond. On-location sessions are quoted separately to ensure that the many variables are taken into consideration.

+

Selecting your images.

We shoot tethered, so images come in as we work — making the editing process efficient and collaborative. Together we narrow things down to the strongest shots. If you're still undecided after the session, I'll put together a gallery for you to make your final selections at your own pace.

+

When will I receive my images?

Retouched images are typically delivered within a week or so. However, if you need them sooner, I'll do all I can to accommodate as my schedule allows.

+

What's the parking like at your studio?

Parking can be tough during business hours but lightens up towards the end of the day — weekends are easy. Half the neighborhood has all-day parking, while the other half has 2-hour spots. Allowing an extra 10–15 minutes to find a spot does the trick. The neighborhood is flat, so walking a few blocks won't include hills.

Usage rights

Unlimited usage is granted. However, I do ask that when those images appear in a major publication, you request that the publication add a credit for me.
